You will be met at the Airport and transferred
to your hotel. Overnight San Pedro Sula.
Day 2: San Pedro
Sula - Copan
Early transfer by road to Copán. We travel through
beautiful rural countryside as we make our way to the picturesque
village of Copán Ruinas. In the afternoon we will take a bird
watching hike around Copán, where we will have the chance to
observe Turquois-browed Motmot, Blue-throated Toucanet, several species of tanagers and orioles.
Overnight Copán.
Day 3: Copan Ruins
Today we will visit
the legendary Archaeological Park of Copán, which consists of two
main sites. The Ruins and the Sepulchres. We will learn about the
amazing 63 step stairway with over 2,500 hieroglyphs and the
masterfully carved Stella. We also visit Las Sepulturas, a resdental
and burial site of the mayan nobles. We return to Copán for lunch.
In the afternoon we bird watch in the Rural Eco Hacienda San Lucas
and The Los Sapos Archaeological Site and we visit the Enchanted
Wings Butterfly Garden. Overnight Copán.
Day 4: Copan – Sta.
Barbara – Lago
This morning we take a nature and culture tour of
Copán Valley. After lunch in Copán we transfer to Lago Yojoa. En
route we will visit Santa Barbara a typical rural town. Here we
visit a handy craft center that surports work with artisans women of
the surrounding area. Panama hats, colorful woven baskets and many
other products are produced from natural fibers such as reed, corn
husk, flat rush and palm leaf. After this tour we continue on to
Lake Yojoa. For some late afternoon bird watching before arriving at
our hotel. Overnight Lago Yojoa.
Lake Yojoa is a natural
paradise, an area which contains one of the richest avifaunas in
Central America, with more than 350 species of birds, today we
explore this area. We visit the lake and Los Naranjos Ecology Park
and then lunch in a typical restaurant to savor the tasty bass.
After our meal we visit Pulhapanzak Waterfall the most spectacular
in Honduras. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon to bird
watch amoungest the hotels orchard. Overnight Lago Yojoa.
Day 6: Lake – Lancetilla - Tela
Morning transfer to
Tela. After lunch in Tela we visit the Lancetilla Botanical Gardens.
The gardens were founded over 70 years ago as an experimental
botanical site by the United Fruit Company. The gardens are home to
hardwood, medicinal and ornamental plants as well as tropical fruit
trees from all over the world. Lancetilla is home to over 300
species of birds includbing Great Antshrike, Cinnamon Becard, Lovely Cotinga,
Purple-crowned Fairy, Keel-billed Toucan, trogons, motmots, parrots and tanagers
are all found. An Orchid Garden and a Natural Reserve with a
beautiful 1,200 hectares of virgin tropical rainforest make up this
wonderful natural area. Overnight Tela.
Los Micos is seperated from the sea by
narrow tongue of sand. The lagoon is surrounded by mangroves which
form many canals and cayes where coexist a huge variety of plant and
animal species. Over 350 different species of birds are found in the
lagoon, look for the Roseate Spoonbills, White Ibis, and Magnificent
Frigatebird. We will explore the lagoons canals and mangroves by
boat. Overnight Tela.
Day 8: Tela – La Ceiba
Morning
transfer to La Ceiba and Pico Bonito Lodge. The Lodge at Pico Bonito
is a luxury nature resort located on Honduras' Caribbean coast and
nestled within the magnificent rainforest of the Pico Bonito
National Park. The luxuriously appointed cabins are the perfect
marriage of rustic elegance and all the comforts of home. On arrival
we will take a birdwatching hike in the beautiful surroundings of
Pico Bonito Lodge. Over 275 species have been located near the
lodge. Herewe may see Blue-gray Tanager, Painted Bunting, Black-headed Trogon,
and the spectacular Long-tailed Manakin! To add to this jaguar, ocelots, kinkajous, peccaries and a
number of species of monkeys are also found. After lunch,we will have the rest of the day is free to
explore the lodges surroundings. Overnight Pico Bonito Lodge, La
Ceiba.
Day 9: Pico Bonito Lodge
Day at leisure to enjoy the wonderful nature
surrounding the Pico Bonito Lodge. Suggested ativities include hiking through the well marked trails to the
natural pools or the waterfalls, a visit to the serpentarium and
butterfly farm or just relax by the pool. Enjoy! Overnight Pico
Bonito Lodge.
Day 10:La Ceiba – San Pedro Sula -
Departure
Morning transfer to the airport in time for your
connecting flight. End of Program.
